Alright I realise I should probably yap more about my interpretation of the pink corruption™️

So… what does corruption do?

When a shape gets corrupted, their emotions intensify, becoming more unstable and intense. It usually comes out from what the shape was originally struggling/have problems with. For example, if they have anger issues, the emotion “anger” would become much greater— they will become more violet, aggressive and hotheaded. It goes the same way for guilt, pride, envy, apathy etc. Additionally, any negative traits the shape has would be further intensified, making them more difficult to deal with. From this, you could say that corruption really brings out the worst in an individual, making them an “evil” version of themselves.

Of course, let’s not forget the body mutations corruption can cause… when a shape gets corrupted, they would get a range of mutations, such as:

-spikes growing all over their body

-Additional limbs

-A more animalistic/skewed appearance

-A more enhanced version of their abilities

-New features that weren’t there before

etc.

Can we get along with Corrupted people?

I mean, you can. However it would take time— especially when a shape has been freshly corrupted. Shapes that have been corrupted for a while have managed to keep their mental state and abilities on check, but fresh corrupteds? You can bet that they’re a lot more erratic, and very unstable. It puts a lot of stress on them, abilities can be explosive due to the body being unable to take the pink energy, causing great damage to anything around them. A good example for that is Cube.

Shapes that have been corrupted for a period of time are more calmer, able to have a clearer thought process and have better control over their powers. While they might be easier to negotiate or become allies with, they would be more rigid and harder to outsmart. In fact, they can be manipulative, intelligent and be outright evil, even— making them much harder to trust.

Examples of shapes that have been corrupted for a while: Try This, Ying(oc), Lycan(kind of) and etc…

Do Pure-born pink shapes exist?

I……. Honestly have no idea. I’m still figuring that out tbh- I remember reading an au, where that in their interpretation, corruption occurs when a shape gains enough power from the tree or smth, causing their colour to go haywire, which is what happened with Blixer… I think it makes sense! I like the idea, but I’m not going to steal it ofc.

Shapes that fit this classification are: Blixer, Barracuda, and Macabre.

Blixer? Most likely.

Cuda? I feel like he is one as well.

Macabre is a special case, though— she’s more of the Paradise’s version of a grim reaper. She’s kind of like a deity class shape, like the tree…

What happens when shapes get purified?

Well when shapes get purified, they revert back to their original self! It’s easy to uncorrupt someone, just feed them the tree’s essence(aka those small triangles you see in the level) and they’ll be back to normal in a bit. However, you’d have to force them first, which is easier said than done… Anyways, that’s what normally happens. However, there’s just one thing—

There’s a chance for a shape to be not fully purified.

It’s a rather special case, and the chance of it happening is uncommon. It occurs if the energy of the triangle is not enough to cure the corruption completely, causing remnants of corrupted energy to remain in the shape’s core. This is called being partially corrupted! Usually it could be “hard” to tell whether a shape is partially corrupted as they don’t feel any symptoms for the first few hours, but a tell-tale sign is the pink splotches on their body. Later on, the shape would report feeling weaker and more drained. This is because the corruption remnants are eating away at their energy.

As corruption creates a more evil-version of a shape manifested in physical form… being partially corrupted grants that as well. Instead, the corruption takes form as an “alter ego” in their head. The alter ego would torment its host, mocking, bullying and making fun of them, wearing down the host’s mind until it is weak enough for it to fully take over. When that occurs, the partial corrupted becomes a fully corrupted.

When the alter ego forms, the host would experience a multitude of things:

-Seeing hallucinations of their corrupted self, usually in mirrors or reflective surfaces.

-Hearing voices in their head, mainly from their corrupted self trying to speak to them.

-Feeling more weak, tired, and worn down. They might experience headaches, body pains and appetite issues.

While having an alter ego may be exhausting, it is possible for the host to make peace with their corrupted self. In some cases, when able to work together with their alter ego, more experienced individuals are able to utilise it to their advantage. For instance, they could let their corrupted self take over when needed for a greater advantage in battles, then regain control after. Additionally, partially corrupted shapes are given access to their corrupted abilities, although it may be a more weakened version of them.

Hello! I'm a huge fan of your comic. I have not played the game JSAB, but have attained most of my knowledge about it through fanworks, so forgive me if I am missing integral context.

Given that there is nothing inherently wrong or different about corrupted shapes (To My Knowledge!), other than that they are pink, what would be the ramifications of Blixer maxing an active effort to corrupt everyone, in an attempt to erase the racism he and other Pink Shapes face?

Of course, I understand that Blixer himself is not so amenable to this idea, being instilled with the belief that to be corrupted and thus associated with the Queen is inherently bad. He has shown remorse for corrupting shapes and does not do it, for fear of them being shunned like he is (At least, I presume so).

The Queen did indeed do something similar once she won against the Pure Shapes (on that note, were there any effects to using the power of the tree and "corrupting" the land, besides everything being pink?), corrupting Pure Shapes but also shattering/genociding many of them in her hatred for them.

However, these do seem to be results of the Pure Shapes enmity (Do I.. dare to say racism..? Is that too much for a 2d block game fancomic??) towards the Pink Shapes initially due to their desire to claim the land on which the pink shapes lived, then in the time of Blixer their disdain is based off of the actions of the Queen, who they presume Blixer to be similar, if not the same in their possible danger to the Pure Shapes.

Essentially, what I'm trying to ask here is, if there's no real reason not to, why *not* corrupt allll the shapes? In theory, at least? What would that look like if successful, and what would it take for Blixer to do it?

(Of course, I'm assuming that it's through the pink water, not through the machine which corrupts them in a different manner which makes them subservient to Blixer.)

Additionally, what would happen to Blixer if you actually tried to purify him? Naturally, people would still be likely to scorn him for being the "wish" of the queen, but I mostly mean the physical and mental changes that would happen.

The first question is for Blixer and you, while the second is just for you. Though, if there are any spoilers to be had in the answers to these questions, I'm alright if you don't provide straight answers to anything!

Holy moly daz a lot Aight- Right of the bat. Disclaimer: I don't put a lot of thought into world building when making my comic, so my answer may be very VERY simple and might not satisfy you much

I did tried my best to put some world building but at the end of the day my comic mainly focuses on character development. But i'll try my best to answer these questions, Also english not my first language, Hopefully I don't misunderstood your questions The thing is with Pure VS Corrupt, I didn't intentionally put racism allegory in it, I'm just following the game that Pure Good, Corrupt (Pink) Bad. But they do have a reason to hate each other in my story (kind of a simple one i suppose) Pure shapes have the Brains, Corrupt Shapes have the Strength Thats the basic gist of what happend 1000 years ago, Corrupted shapes have the ability to spawn weapons, so they are seen as dangerous from the start. Pures on the other hand are smart but I, the writer, not smart enough to think about what they can invent. But anyways theres no such thing as "corrupted" and "pure" back then, it was something else (that i forgot, but i swear i wrote it down somewhere). the pink got the "corrupted" title cuz well, they won and took over, even make people pink. What if the cold colored shapes won? well they'll be the "corrupted" in the present and the pink will be "pure" .... Hopefully that make sense..... because of this history, present pure shapes hates corrupt. heck- they thought they're already gone forever. So when Blix Shows up, Naturally everyone become more on guard and hostile towards Blix. ANYWAY- the Corruption have different effects mentally! It actually ties to the wishing system. Based on what the wish is, it will adapt to that. Like the wish for the flowers listen to Blixer, Cube got corrupted by the same triangle, and what happend? she's like the flowers, mindlessly following Blixers orders. What about the Queen? well her wish was to beat the pure, so everytime she corrupt someone, that shape will be against the pure. What about Blixer? He is a wish himself, he did exist because of the queen wish. Well It kind of ties to what Blixer really wants: friends. So when he accidentally corrupt Lycan, Nothing much change really, because even before corrupted she don't mind playing with blixer. (but obviously he don't know this) If someone who hates Blix got corrupted by his touch, they'll probably suddenly become nice to him. I think Thats all the Pure vs Corrupt, plus Corruption Explaining Done Now to the WHY Blixer don't just corrupt all of them Because that's not what he wanted. He already hate this "power" to begin with. I think I already explain it in the comic but not really directly. He wants everyone to feels what he feel. To be alone. Alone in a world of pure, so he switch it around. Make the world Corrupt and Isolate them. Thats why he don't just corrupt them, cuz whats the point if he corrupt them? he don't really know the effects from it besides physical pain. Blixer wants them to be fully aware that they're a pure shape trapped in a corrupt world. What about the flowers? their corruption was on accident, but he end up took advantage of that to capture the non flower shapes faster. Why theres a lot of flowers? Idk. I never thought of it :D What would make Blixer to corrupt all of them? hmm... I think... after years of isolating them and they still don't understand, maybe that will be trigger to just corrupt them all. he could order the flowers to throw them to the water, or put them in the factory (where cube got corrupt) depends if he wants more mindless minions or not. Though the factory option might be better, cuz water just make them act like Lycan

Now 2nd Question, Pure Blix can't happend unless the Pure shapes won 1000 years ago (so instead of the pink getting the ability to turn shape into pink minions, Its Blue making blue minion) . Blixer is a born corrupt so this is his default, theres no turning pure unless that shape is born pure. But If we wanna think about what could possibly happend, well- I suppose his powers will be gone, both curse and his weapons, maybe a bit smarter too?? less spiky, more circle pfft, idk, I got nothin tbh

Allow me to officially introduce the newest thing I'm not quite normal about: the video game Just Shapes & Beats!

I haven't finished it yet myself (right now I'm at just after Close To Me), but I've seen all the bossfights and the ending an unhealthy amount of times.

Anyway, I'm having so much fun.

When I first started getting into JSAB however-many months ago (I watched the Close To Me bossfight on a whim and the rest was history), I wasn't sure I'd be a fan of the gameplay since I'm pretty bad at bullet hell games (technically I've only ever tried Enter the Gungeon, but still) but it's actually not as hard as I thought, and the music really makes the experience a great great time.

Also, the characters are so fun!

this took some time to build my courage up, but I'm REALLY curious about how the wish system works in your jsab au. Was it just like the fairytale make your own wish system or does it have twists like sacrificing something/give and take/monkey paw-esque mechanic? Im really curious to know!

I'm the polar opposite of ya, I don't enjoy writing world building lmao, I wish I do but alas, I enjoy writing characters more and their motivations, stuff that makes them break to their limit. But to answer your question there is a wish system yes, a very simple one (i think, i hope), I actually explain it in the comic, but to recap:

CORRUPTED TREEANGLE WISH

It works like a genie, 3 wish, 1 for each piece but instead of getting exactly what ya want, it only comes true when ya say something that you actually really want subconciously/deep down and most of the time, it ends up making the wish in a bad way/extreme, example:

Blixer wants people to understand his pain = become king, so he can capture everyone and isolate them like he was

Blixer wants the flowers to listen to him for once = every flower are now corrupted and braindead

Blixer wants a friend = Cuda literally spawn (not that bad but the fact that he exist just to be his friend)

PURE TREEANGLE WISH

this time, the smaller triangle pieces works to give wishes, so its technically infinite, same with corrupt that the wish is something you want deep down BUT FOR SOMEONE ELSE its not a selfish wish and that other person also wanted that wish, its like giving someone a gift that they really wanted, so it can be really powerful, especially when ya want someone to be cured (wink wink nudge nudge)

The wish cant be something... petty? idk the word- like- example "i wanna be rich!" and your friend wishes for you to be rich, is that really your deepest desire? that wont work

Extra Info: pure triangle can shape shift into weapon of choice but that only reserved to guardians (heli and boat) the heroes bless them with that, why? to help them out to beat blixer

Have you wondered about the morality of corruption? When a shape becomes corrupted by pink energy, their personality becomes warped, their name changes, and they gain new abilities. You might say they’re the same person appearance wise, but mentally, are they the same person?

Sure, their corrupted personality is linked to their pure personality, because corruption intensifies their negative emotions and flawed traits. But due to circumstances, if a shape ends up staying corrupted permanently, do they start missing themself? They look around— they see the things that they used to partake in, their joys, their loved ones— but it was the memories made by a person that used to be them. Their loved ones miss the uncorrupted version of them. Do they ever regret being corrupted? Do they feel guilt?

It’s like the ship of Theseus. Even though you’re the same ship, many parts of you had been replaced that it would be considered a new one.

If you’re forced to become someone else entirely thanks to a fucked up virus… you’d end up losing yourself. That’s what makes it terrifying.

SO MY THEORY

Im thinking that Iris had gotten corrupted before, and maybe even worked with the corrupted Bossfight group some time before the events of season 1. (Cintagram might not have known that name otherwise, but idk for sure) Im guessing he had gotten purified by another caretaker at some point before the events of season 1, who couldn't have been Cube, since he was just pronounced a caretaker in s1e1, im guessing pentellow or pyrare. I think pyrare would have been more likely to purify Iris/Cyrus since, y'know, being the first ever caretaker, he would presumably have more experience doing caretaker stuff like purifying shapes.

This info could be completely outdated, but there's a decent chunk of evidence here that points towards Cyrus being canon.

But that's just a theory

Is Blixer emotional? I mean I know he cried a bunch in the comics but what do the others think of him whenever he has an emotional breakdown

yes, blixer is an emotional type of person, but he's also good at masking it, he wont let other see/know what he's actually feeling.

if he ever does break his mask when he's not alone, i feel like they won't be surprised if they're close to blixer and knows he does this, like cube. If they're a random person or donno blixer that much like boat, they probably be surprised since boat and the heroes have a fix image of him being the big bad villain

also i accidentally delete your ask about cube having a backbone or not, i'd say she does... hopefully... sometimes idk if my writing good or not, hah- i'll let you decide

Barracuda | He/Him

Volcano guardian - 1st gen

Status: CORRUPT

Equinox’s right hand man. Ever since the beginning, it was clear this shape would be loyal to the moon til the end of time. The two bonded, and the king granted the shape power. Even after the king had fallen, that power still lingers

Barracuda is one of two guardians to properly make connections to his region citizens (the other being Lycanthropy) often helping out and willing to connect. He knows many residents by name and does his best to keep track of what is going on in their life.

Cuda has two forms:

- the right: his everyday appearance. 95% of the time, this is what barracuda looks like. He’s usually very calm and cheerful. This form sits at roughly 5’10” (~178 cm)

- the left: raw corruption surge. Barracuda has a lot more power than he leads others on to believe. During higher stress/emotional situations, his extra power seems to leak out, twisting his body to accommodate this extra power. This form can change size and is highly unpredictable.

Trivia:

- Barracuda has dozens of snakes. Living tattoos that were a gift from the king. He uses them to stalk others and keep an eye on anyone who comes into his region (whether it be fresh corruption shapes, or pure ones looking for trouble)

- he is surprisingly patient. There’s only three (technically four) shapes that has triggered a corrupt surge. Those being the clash twins, Tanzanite, and Macabre.

- gets constant migraines due to the amount of info he receives from his snakes. It becomes overwhelming very quickly if a lot of them are active

- he does have a favorite snake. Her name is Skittle!

- on his very first ref it states he occasionally writes. This is still true.

- the tip of his tail in both forms do rattle. If not done intentionally, the sound bothers Cuda

- Barracuda is very open about being a follower of the moon, even wearing a crescent on his boot and having the king’s crest on his back (not seen in images as of yet)

Saw the recent ask about TIO forms and it's compelled me to dig up some headcanons from the mess of my JSaB AU.

So... Bare with me. This is kinda long.

Etherians (My name for the Hero Shapes) are byproducts of the Archtree and are different from the other life forms of the land. They have a single organ that powers their entire body: a Core, essentially a shard of the Tree. This Core provides them their powers and gives them long lifespans. Though their bodies are fragile, they regenerate rapidly, and can recover from any wound so long as their Core is not damaged.

The destruction of the Core means the destruction of the Etherian, as it also houses their consciousness. This may happen naturally with extreme age, though more often than not, external pressures from the environment kill them instead.

Anyways... Onto TIO forms.

Ascension, as it's called, occurs when an Etherian taps into the full energy reserve of their Core and uses all of their energy at once to enter a divine guise. In this state, their very bodies are disfigured, rended, and morphed by the intense energy; They're more energy than flesh. Anything near it will simply evaporate, and even so much as staring at them can render a person blind for a few hours. Not a thought of fear or agony graces their minds; The Etherian’s perception of pain and self preservation is completely blocked out in this state. With this great energy, they can fire scorching beams of light and create weapons capable of splitting mountains.

Within minutes of doing this, the Etherian dies.

Ascension uses all of the remaining energy of the Core in a short amount of time, and the Etherian simply has no energy left over to sustain itself. Even if they were to survive with energy left over, the intense power that coursed through them would have fatally degraded their bodies, killing them regardless.

There is no way to avoid it. Ascension ends in death, so the technique is highly discouraged.

Blixer was abandoned in a cave by his parents when he was 5, he thought that they were coming back to him, but they didn't... He waited years for them but they never came back, so that's why Blixer change his real name into his current name, he hated his parents... He hated her.... He regrets that he waited for them...
